Book Blitz - His Saving Grace by Heather Gray

Title: His Saving Grace
Author: Heather Gray
Published: Astraea Press, July 30th, 2013
Word Count: approx. 32,400
Genre: Regency Inspirational Romance

Synopsis:

Will she be able to save him from himself?

Grace finds herself wed to a man who loathes her. She is shunned and exiled to the farthest corner of the land. It wouldn't hurt so much if he hadn't once been her best friend.

Thomas became a duke long before he was ready. Now he can't go anywhere without women trying to entrap him into marriage. He expected better from his childhood friend.

How can friendship, let alone marriage, thrive in the face of bitterness, suspicion, and misunderstanding?

What's to be done when the hurtful choices made in anger have lasting consequences?

It takes a special kind of person to see past the pain to the beauty that lies beyond…

Excerpt:
Grace soaked in Thomas's warmth. She sighed into his waistcoat and said, "I appreciate the kind words, Thomas, but you shouldn't be in here alone with me. We both know that."

Thomas, his voice light, said, "It was in here with you or out there with the barracudas. I think I'm safer right where I am."

Grace didn't pull out of his comforting hug as she knew she ought to. Instead she said, "I've spent my whole life in Stafford Shire and have never even been to London before. All I'm asking for is one season. If I wait much longer, I'll be completely on the shelf, and no decent man will even consider marrying me. My father has doomed me to the life of being some man's courtesan!"

"You've been reading the newspaper again, haven't you?" She felt the warm rumble of his chuckle against her cheek. "You shouldn't even know words like that. If your parents knew you were reading those rags, they'd have your hide."

Grace's tears had quieted and were slowly being replaced by hiccups. Just as Thomas began to release her from his friendly hold, the library door opened with a loud bang.

"What the devil is going on in here?" demanded Lady Appleton.

Grace jumped out of Thomas's arms and said, "It's not what you th—ink." The hiccups were gaining momentum. "I was up—set. Thomas found me, and I was—crying. He was simply be—ing kind."

The skin on Lady Appleton's florid face jiggled as she shouted, "Not only are you in a room with a man unchaperoned, but you were in an embrace!" Her gown truly was the most awful color. It was somewhere between green and brown, like a plant that had withered and died. To make the ensemble worse, she looked as if she were wearing an entire peacock atop her piled hair.

Seeming to thrive on spectacle, Lady Appleton continued to bombast them with accusation, her voice growing toward a crescendo. "You've been ruined, young lady! There will have to be a wedding at once!" If volume were the stick by which such things were measured, Lady Appleton's screeching voice ensured that Grace would feel maximum shame.

"Th—at wasn't an embrace!"

By this time, several people had gathered in the hallway outside the library door. When Grace's father came on the scene, Thomas spoke directly to him, ignoring Lady Appleton. "I apologize for any misunderstanding. Gracie was crying. She was upset, might I add, by the cruel things you said to her. I'm nothing more than a childhood friend offering a bit of encouragement and reassuring her that her father is not the ogre he appears to be at present."

Grace had never heard Thomas's voice quite like this. The sharp edge of strong metal in it was unmistakable. This voice belonged to the Duke of Stafford, not her childhood friend Thomas.

About Heather:

Aside from her long-standing love affair with coffee, Heather’s greatest joys in life are her relationship with her Savior, her family, and writing.  Years ago, she decided it would be better to laugh than yell. Heather carries that theme over into her writing where she strives to create characters that experience both the highs and lows of life and, through it all, find a way to love God, embrace each day, and laugh out loud right along with her.

An Interview with NELY CAB, Author of CREATURA - Excerpt and Giveaway!

Title: Creatura
Author: Nely Cab
2nd Edition Publication: August 6th, 2013
Word Count: approx. 82,000
Genre: YA Paranormal Romance
Recommended Age:  13+

Synopsis: Isis can control her dreams. Or she could—until recently. The creature in her nightmares has been haunting her for months. As if being dumped wasn’t bad enough, now she dreads going to sleep. She decides to confront the creature and win back some of her peace; only, she finds that he’s not a monster and he’s not a dream.

A sacrifice for love, a shocking discovery and a jealous ex-boyfriend blur the lines between reality and dreams, making it hard to tell who the real monsters are.

Who would’ve known…that sometimes love is lethal?

About the Author:
Nely Cab was born on December 9, 1974, in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She has lived and resided in a small, quiet South Texas town most of her life. Putting her Computer Accounting skills to use, Cab worked in banking for several years. In 2001, the author relocated to Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, where she dedicated time to the study of culinary arts and the art of oil painting. After her return to the U.S., Nely resumed her employment in banking and later transitioned to the field of Social Work. Today, Nely Cab writes from the comfort of her home, where she lives with her husband and son. Her life goal is to check-off Bucket List Item No. 95,623,351: To Conquer the World. While she aspires world domination, Nely continues to work on her debut series Creatura.

THE INTERVIEW

Hi Nely, I’m so glad you could join me today. I know your fans are eager to learn a little bit about you, I know I am.

1. When did you decide you wanted to write a novel?
I didn’t. I decided I wanted to write short stories and Creatura just developed into a novel on its own. It was purely accidental.

2.  Is there any message in your novel that you hope to convey to your readers?
Yes, if you read Creatura you’ll find that there it touches on family unity, faith, respect and chivalry. These are things that I feel our younger generations are forgetting. I wrote them in the book in hopes that we’d remember not to take these for granted.

3.  Is there anything unique about the setting for your book?
The setting of the book is in the town I consider home. Los Fresnos is small town with a population of 5000 residents, surrounded by farmland and rural routes. I graduated from Los Fresnos High School, which is the same school Isis attends. The beach is only 25 minutes away from it.

4.  Do your characters seem real to you? Can you relate to their story in any way that you would like to share with your fans?
My characters do feel real to me. If they didn’t, I don’t think I could write their stories. The connection between my characters and me is special, because each of them has a little something from my own personality that I knit into their character. I can relate to the relationship between Isis and David because it’s very similar to experiences I had when I had admirers trying to woo me—of course none of them were deities. They gave me roses, sang to me, serenaded me, held doors open, pulled out chairs...surprised me with chocolate and stuffed animals. And I was only a teenager when all these things romantic gestures happened. Who knew I’d be using these experiences later in life to write a book.

5.  Do your characters remind you of any one in particular?
Isis reminds me of my sister because she was modeled after her. Galen reminds me of my brother because I took a lot of his personality to mold Galen’s character.

6.  Does your heroine have any of yourself in her? If so, what features are those?
Isis is stubborn and a romantic at heart. She sets her mind on something and nothing can sway her. She’s also too quick to trust people.

7.  Do your characters change throughout the course of the story?
Yes. Through the experiences they live, they become more mature.
8.  Was any part of the book difficult to write or make you feel uncomfortable?
The ending was horrible. I hate scenes like that. I can’t tell you about it because it’ll ruin the story.

9.  Was there any particular song or song track that inspired Creatura?
Yes, there were three actually and I’ll provide the lyrics that most spoke to me:
1.      Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day
I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
When the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk alone

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone up there will find me
'til then I walk alone”

2.     Amazing by Kanye West
“I'm a monster, I'm a maven
I know this world is changing
Never gave in, never gave up
I'm the only thing I'm afraid of…”

3.    Love Lockdown by Kanye West
“I'm not lovin' you the way I wanted to
What I had to do, had to run from you
I'm in love with you but the vibe is wrong
And that haunted me all the way home”

10.  Creatura has a gorgeous cover. Can you tell us how you chose the picture?
I was perusing through Phatpuppy’s gallery when I came across it. It was just so very perfect. The model had all the emotions that I wanted portrayed: solitude and a hint of fear that caused her that look of fury.

11.  When you write, are you a plotter or a panster?
I’m mostly a punster at the beginning. Then the plotting comes in when I get that initial high out of my system.

12.  How long did it take you to write Creatura?
It took me a year and a half because I was in no hurry. I really never had given thought to publishing it.

13.  What’s in store for the future. Any other books in the works?
Currently, I’m writing book 2 in the Creatura series; it’s slowly but surely getting finished. I also have a new idea for an untitled New Adult book series, but I’m not sure about that one yet.

14.  Can you describe your writing workspace? If you work at a desk, what is on your desk right now.
I work at a desk. On my left, there are books by other authors and lots of Creatura swag. In the middle and at the desk’s angle (picture a right angle) is my computer right in front of me. Off to the back of the computer and to the left a bit, there’s my wish wall. It’s where I keep pictures of my bucket list items. To my right is a lighted vanity mirror (my desk is misused often lol!) and my diet soda, water and office supplies, like tape, staple, pens etc. It’s a real mess in here!

Fun Stuff
White or Red Wine? Neither.
Favorite Ice Cream? Chocolate and Pistachio
Favorite Food? ALL OF IT!
Favorite place to read? Anywhere that it’s nice and quiet.

Thank you for sharing your most inner secrets with us today.

And thank you for having me as guest!

NOW PLEASE ENJOY THIS EXCERPT FROM CREATURA

In my dreams, he watches me. Haunts me. He’s the cause of my nightmares, and the dread of my nights.

My name is Isis Martin, and I’m seventeen years old. I suffer from a sleeping disorder. After three months, I’m finding it difficult to function on one or two hours of sleep per night.

Today I’ve got another session with Dr. Jameson. He’s my best friend’s dad and the only psychiatrist in town. He suggested I start a journal to release my stress and maybe one day I’d be able to sleep again. He says my recurring dream is only a reflection of my anxiety to sleep, but there’s something that tells me he’s wrong.

***

I had always been able to control my dreams. I don’t know how, but I could. In my sleep I discovered worlds that only existed in my imagination. My favorite was a poppy field where the sun rested over the horizon frozen in time for no one else but me. The meadow with the odd shaped tree that I had named Infinity was my private haven and my emotional sanctuary. In that far away land, night never came and day never broke. It was the place where tears did not fall and worries did not exist…until the nightmares began.

***

“You’re proposing a wager?”

I nodded.

“If I win, you’ll leave my dreams forever,” I said.

He gazed at me for a moment. Maybe it was just my imagination, but I thought I saw trace of a grin on his face.

“If I should win, you will believe I am not a dream,” David said.

“If you say so,” I snickered. “I guess this is goodbye since I’ll be winning.”

“And…” he said

“There’s more?”

“And…you will never again come here.”

“Okay,” I said. “Fair enough.”

“And…” he said again.

“That’s too many ‘ands’.”

“And…” he continued, “I bid you not farewell, but good morrow.”

David tipped his head as he disappeared, leaving behind a cloud of golden dust.

Her trust is put to the test when hidden dangers unfold before her, revealing secrets that have been buried for years. Secrets that were meant to stay hidden. Murder, lies, and betrayal … will Marissa figure it all out in time and escape with her life intact, or will she be too late and fall into the trap of deception?

What a gorgeous cover. Check out the full print version.

Now for the music behind Love, Lies, and Deception.
The music behind the book is actually an interesting topic. I have no clue why I had such a desire to choose the music I did, but it just felt right. My characters in Love, Lies, and Deception remind me so much of how I was when I was in college. I went to Appalachian State University and that is where I have my characters attending. It brought back so many memories. During my time there, I remembered a lot of the songs I used to jam to back then, most of them being 90’s R&B songs.
When so many of the songs reminded me of my story I thought, “hey, why not have a 90’s playlist?”
Hence, the reason why I have all 90’s songs on my playlist. When I went through my edits, all I did was listen to the songs I had picked out over and over.  What can I say … I’m a 90’s chick.

 Excerpt:

Taking a deep breath, I turned around to face him with his hands still holding onto my arms. “Are you asking me on another date?” I asked, teasing him.

He smirked, a slow tilting of his lip that had me aching to bite it. “That’s up to you if that’s what you want to call it,” he murmured heatedly.

“What if I do want to call it that?” I asked boldly.

Alec pinned me up against the counter and placed his arms on both sides of me, locking me in to the confines of his body. His piercing blue gaze held me captive, and I was drowning, struggling to breathe as he moved closer.

Bending low, he continued his torturous teasing by breathing across my neck. My eyes fluttered closed as his lips connected with the tender flesh at my collarbone. I shivered as the chill bumps fanned across my skin and made me weak. His voice in my ear immediately counteracted the chills. “If you want to call this dating, then I think that usually requires a little bit of touching, does it not?”
My breathing accelerated as Alec’s body grew flush with mine, leaning dangerously against me. He tilted my head back slightly so I had to look into his face. Slowly, I placed my hands on his hips, and instead of touching the waist of his jeans I was met with the bare skin of his body where his shirt had lifted up.

Holy shit, his skin felt hot! I could feel the ridges on his sides where they disappeared beneath his jeans, and I wanted nothing more than to trail my tongue down the contours of his muscles.

With hooded eyes, and a raspy, breathless voice, I replied, “I’m sure it’s customary to withstand some touching, but not too much since I don’t know you very well.” I said it, but my body didn’t really mean it, and he could tell I was lying to myself.

Slowly, he brought his hand to my face and trailed one of his long, lithe fingers over my cheek and down my neck. “Like this,” he insisted, swirling his finger around my neck. “Is this the kind of touching we’re allowed to do?” Chill bumps exploded across my skin, making me shiver.

“Yes,” I breathed, relishing in the feel of his touch. “Just like that.”

Closing my eyes, I sighed as he trailed his finger further down, stopping at my navel. The heat of his breath fanned across my face as I felt him dipping lower. I didn’t dare open my eyes and risk breaking the connection, but I wanted to see the heat in his gaze. Ever so slowly, his mouth connected with mine, soft and confident. He lingered for a moment, not moving, just his lips touched lightly to mine.

I wanted more … a lot more.

****************************
Now I want more. Can't wait to read this.
